A native to Virginia, Wess is
an
accomplished vocalist and
guitarist. He grew up listening to
country and bluegrass on the radio,
and his roots run deepin Gospel music.
As a
child, Saturday nights would consist
of an old fashioned hymn sing with
his parents, brothers & sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and
grandparents. Inspired by his favorite artist, Chet
Atkins, Wess learned how to play guitar at an early age. When he was
five, his mother purchased his first guitar with S&H Green Stamps. Wess
started singing in the church choir and later developed his voice in the
Family Gospel Trio.
By age 11, he had won his first talent contest. While in high school, he
was a member of the Harlequinn Association, and went on to win the Bland
Scholarship Competition Award. He was also a lead and supporting actor
and vocalist in over 50 plays during his years in high school.
After graduation, he attended college at the Shennandoah Conservatory of
Music. During which time he wrote and produced several albums by the age
of 24.
Wess has also performed in the White House for two Presidents, and was
recieved well. In addition to his live performances, he has recorded
songs on the top 40 charts, including one that made a big stir in 1986 -
"The Wind Keeps Whistling Dixie." He has appeared on television on TNN,
The Family Channel, FOX Network, CMT and NASCAR Country. Wess was the
emcee and featured vocalist for both Southern Country Nights and The
Carolina Opry in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Wess has been featured in over 1200 perfornmances at the American Music
Theatre in Lancaster, PA since the spring of 2001.
When not performing, Wess enjoys spending time with his family.
Together, they enjoy horseback riding, fishing, singing and Biblical
history. When they have a chance to go back home in Virginia, they still
enjoy getting together with the family for hymn sings.
